The highly transmittable nature of COVID- 19 and the exposure risks of the virus are evolving daily. Understanding the most recent updates on COVID- 19 is essential as we implement CDC and WHO recommended processes and procedures for hand hygiene, PPE use and disinfection. These recommendations will provide maximum efficacy against the virus while maintaining a safe environment for our staff, patients and customers.

Learning Objectives

Participants will understand the most up to date information on COVID- 19

Participants will be able to educate staff on exposure risks and safe practices relating to PPE while cleaning and disinfecting in the COVID- 19 environment.
Participants will understand the WHO 5 Moments of Hand Hygiene as a best practice as compared to traditional hand washing methods

SPEAKERS:

Dr. Rodney E. Rohde

Dr. Rodney E. Rohde is an Advisory Board member of InfectionControl.tips and Professor, Research Dean and Chair of the Clinical Laboratory Science Program (CLS) in the College of Health Professions of Texas State University, where he spends a great deal of time mentoring and coaching students in this sometimes mysterious and vague path. He has been recognized with teaching excellence at both Texas State and Austin Community College. Dr. Rohde’s background is in public health and clinical microbiology, and his PhD dissertation at Texas State was aligned with his clinical background: MRSA knowledge, learning and adaptation. His research focuses on adult education and public health microbiology with respect to rabies virology, oral rabies wildlife vaccination, antibiotic resistant bacteria, and molecular diagnostics/biotechnology. He has published a book on MRSA stories, over 50 research articles, book chapters and abstracts and presented at more than 100 international, national and state conferences.

In 2015, Dr. Rohde received the Cardinal Health #urEssential Award as Champion of the CLS Profession, named a Top 20 Professor of CLS and received the Texas State Mariel M. Muir Mentoring Award. Likewise, he was awarded the 2015 and the 2012 Distinguished Author Award and the 2014 and 2007 ASCLS Scientific Research Award for his work with rabies and MRSA, respectively. Learn more about his work here. Dr. Rohde is the past President of the Texas Association for Clinical Laboratory Science (TACLS) and has been involved in licensure efforts in Texas since 2007. In 2017, Dr. Rohde became a Fellow of the Association of Clinical Scientists, and was honoured as a TEDx Speaker and Global Fellow of the Global Citizenship Alliance.

John LaRochelle

John is the founder and CEO of Environmental Infection Prevention, Inc. (EIP) and President of Lighthouse Healthcare Partners. Environmental Infection Prevention was created as a result of his career long commitment to reducing illness and saving lives through the elimination of infections with best in class people, process and technology. Prior to EIP, John spent over 30 years with Sodexo where he began his career as a housekeeper and rose through the ranks holding US, North American and Global Executive Leadership Positions. These positions included VP of ES/Laundry USA, Head of Innovation for North America and finally the Global Leader for Environmental Infection Prevention where he was responsible for their global environmental infection prevention and cleaning program development across all business segments within 80 countries. In addition to those roles, his experience also includes facilities management and safety experience in hospitals, long term care, corporate and education establishments with direct management experience in environmental infection prevention, maintenance, biomedical engineering, construction, housekeeping, laundry and safety. John was also responsible for program development, technical support of 600 health care locations within the USA. His professional career path has provided him with top to bottom expertise in environmental infection prevention, as well as the ability to establish productive collaboration with all the key stakeholders necessary to impact change.
